Other Site Characteristics

Catena montuosa che costituisce una diramazione della catena dei Monti Sibillini con andamento da Sud-Est a Nord-Ovest, culminante nel Monte Cardosa (m 1618), in gran parte rivestita da foreste di faggio, nelle quali si trovano anche tassi e agrifogli di notevoli dimensioni; la parte sommitale è occupata da pascoli secondari e al passo di Fonte Chiusa si osservano alcune grande aree che in passato erano coltivate, ma ormai abbandonate da molti anni, ragione per le quali in esse si estrinsecano tutti i processi della successione secondaria, mediante la colonizzazione con specie arbustive.

4.2 Quality and importance

Area ben conservata, nonostante siano evidenti soprattutto nella parte sommitale i segni di un'antica antropizzazione, di notevole interesse per l'estensione delle foreste e per le specie presenti; stato di conservazione molto buono.
