Other Site Characteristics

Il bosco sorge su un banco roccioso calcarenitico che ne ha consentito la sopravvivenza poichè¨ non utilizzabile a fini agricoli. Il microclima locale è particolarmente caldo umido per la presenza di aree palustri. Nell'area sono presenti i cosiddetti "aisi", cioè sprofondamenti carsici nei quali si livella l'acqua di falda. La parte marina del sito comprende un posidonieto su matte e su substrato duro, ed è una delle più rappresentative facies del coralligeno adriatico pugliese.

Presenza di ben cinque specie vegetali della lista rossa nazionale. Il bosco costituisce uno degli ultimi lembi della medioevale "Foresta di Lecce".
