Ampia fiumara del versante ionico calabrese con ingente attività erosiva e apporto detritico a valle.Presenza di macchia a Nerium oleander e Pinus halepensis con specie vegetali di notevole interese biogeografico (Sarcopterium spinosum e Teucrium fruticans).

4.2 Quality and importance

Presenza a macchia di Nerium oleander e Pinus halepensis con presenza di vegetali di notevole interese biogeografico (Sarcopterium spinosum e Teucrium fruticans): Comunità ornitica di particolare interesse. Linteresse di questo sito è legato alla presenza di pinete naturali a Pinus halepensis in buono stato di conservazione che costituiscono una fascia più o meno continua lungo i pendii della valle. Presenza di macchia a Nerium oleander e Pinus halepensis con specie vegetali di notevole interesse biogeografico: Sarcopoterium spinosum (L.) Spach è specie in rapida riduzione in Calabria: negli ultimi venti anni non è stata più rinvenuta lungo la costa crotonese e il suo areale lungo la costa ionica settentrionale si è sensibilmente frammentato. Juniperus phoenicea L.s.l., in Calabria è rara e probabilmente in riduzione a causa dello sfruttamento delle coste
