Other Site Characteristics

Clima mediterraneo semi-arido, Temperatura media annua di 18,4° C, piovosità irregolare concentrata nel periodo autunno-vernino. L'area ricade nella formazione "Gessoso-Solfifera", caratterizzata da argille marnose, argille azzurrognole e calcari marnosi bianchi (trubi).

4.2 Quality and importance

Sulla base di ricerche effettuate lungo la fascia costiera di Palma di Montechiaro (Sortino, 1967), in un'area comprendente il S.I.C. in oggetto, sono state censite 236 fanerogame, con elevata incidenza di leguminose e composite, e larga dominanza di terofite (51,46%). La vegetazione è costituita principalmente da formazioni aperte a Chamaerops humilis, praterie a Lygeum spartum ed Ampelodesmos mauritanica, comunità a Salsola longifolia e Thymelaea hirsuta, garighe a Thymus capitatus, oltre a comunità erbacee degli incolti e dei pascoli.Nella categoria D del punto 3.3 sono state incluse specie di interesse fitogeografico.
