Other Site Characteristics

L'area si estende nell'interno della provincia di Agrigento ad altitudini comprese tra c. 330 e 640 m s.l.m. Sotto l'aspetto geologico sono frequenti calcari selciferi e dolomitici, ed argille azzurre del Tortoniano; il bioclima va dal Termomediterraneo -Subumido inferiore al Mesomediterraneo-subumido inferiore.

4.2 Quality and importance

La flora vascolare, rappresentata da circa 700 specie, include numerosi taxa inclusi nella liste rosse. Sotto il profilo vegetazionale si riscontrano boscaglie aperte a Quercus virgiliana, aspetti di macchia, ampelodesmeti, comunità rupicole e dei detriti, oltre a limitate praterie igrofile e canneti (sorgente Acqua Fitusa). Larga incidenza hanno inoltre le colture agrarie.
