4.2 Quality and importance

The lake Baluosas holds large portion of Chara growth. Among many small islands distributed over the lake Baluosas, there is one island holding a lake of 7.7 m depth. The shoreline is very curved.Tauragnas is the deepest lake in Lithuania (60,5 m). Average water transparency in summer is about 5 m.This is one of the best preserved spruce and western taiga type habitat in the western part of Aukstaitija national park.Linkmenas is well preserved clean lake with typical associations of Chara spp.Asekas is natural distrophical lake not so common for this part of Lithuania.A valuable complex consisting of bogs and bog woodland with rare fauna and flora species.A complex consisting valuable habitats poorly influenced by humen activities. Characterized by a large botanical variety. There is lot of rare and protected flora species (from the Lithuanian Red Book and Annex II of Habitats directive).Usiai is the lake with well preserved distribution and quality of Chara spp.Dringis is the biggest lake among all eastern Lithuania lakes situated in Aukstaitija national park and holding one of the biggest population of Chara according to its size. One of the best preserved old forest of Western Taiga type in Eastern Lithuania. This is the bog supporting one of the biggest population of Saxifraga hirculus in northern part of Aukstaitija national park and Eastern Lithuania in the whole.Baluosykstis is small lake, but preserving very clean water and having very vital population of Chara spp.Very good nourishment conditions. This site compose 0.2 percent suitable biotopes of territories in Lithuania.
