Other Site Characteristics

Peculiar relief formed by hills (Dauguli) characterises the site. Large raised bogs, spruce, pine and mixed forests are found in between. Occasionally mixed broad-leaved forests occur. Also two large lakes (Augstrozes Lielezers and Mazezers), small rivers and agriculture lands are in the site. Site includes a part of the park of Augstroze Estate and many sites of archaelogical importance. D - Red Data Book of Latvia.

4.2 Quality and importance

Site of high importance for conservation of wetland habitats 7110* Active raised bogs, 7140 Transitional mires and quaking bogs, 91D0* Bog woodland, 3160 Natural dystrophic lakes, 3150 Natural eutrophic lakes with... and 9020* Fennoscandian natural old broad-leaved forests. Qualifying species are Osmoderma eremita, Graphoderus bineatus, Lutra lutra, Cobitis taenia. Hosts many nationally rare invertebrate, plant and bat species. Site of high geomorphological value. Highly important for breeding woodpeckers and raised bog bird species. Also known to host thousands of roosting geese during autumn passage.
