Other Site Characteristics

Site is located at Burtnieks lake between Seda and Ruja rivers. Mainly young birch forests dominate, also fragments of mixed oak-aspen -pine forests, pine and spruce forests and fens are found. A number of oxbows are in the site where dense Stratiotes aloides stands occur. Floodplain meadows are also found. D - very rare species (only two localities in Latvia).

4.2 Quality and importance

Qualifying features are 6450 Northern Boreal alluvial meadows and 9160 Sub_Atlantic and medio-Europan oak or ..Qualifying species are Ophiogomphus cecilia, Leucorrhinia pectoralis, Graphoderus bilineatus and Osmoderma eremita. Remaining old-growth forest stands and oak trees along rivers Seda and Ruja are important for breeding woodpeckers and Ural Owl.
