Other Site Characteristics

Site is located on both sides of Daugava River and includes Daugava River itself, ravine and slope forests mainly with Quercus robur and Tilia cordata, coniferous and mixed forests, agriculture lands and scattered farmsteads, alluvial forests with Alnus incana, small rivers, calcareous springs and dolomite outcrops. D - species of Red Data Book of Latvia, Woodland Key Habitat species, species of calcarious springs.

4.2 Quality and importance

Qualifying features are Tilio-Acerio forests of slopes, screes and ravines(9180*), Calcareous rocky sloes with chasmohytic vegetation (8210), Petrifying springs with tufa formation (7220), Semi-natural dry grasslands and scrubland facies on calcareous sustrates (6210). Lowland hay meadows (6510) and Watercourses with the Ranunculion fluitantis and Callitricho-Batrachion vegetation (3270). Qualifying species are Cobitis taenia, Cottus gobio, Aspius aspius, Lutra lutra, Agrimonia pilosa and Pulsatilla patens. Hosts large number of nationally rare plant and invertebrate species. Important site for asp and catfish. No special ornithological interest. Medium important site for bats.
