Other Site Characteristics

Site includes a number of eutrophic lakes surrounded by dry and wet coniferous and deciduous forests. D - Red Data Book and rare species in Latvia

4.2 Quality and importance

Main qualifying features are Oligotrophic to mesotrophic standing waters with vegetation of the Littorelletea uniflorae.. (3130), Natural eutrophic lakes with.. (3150), Transitional mires and quaking bogs (7140) and Bog woodland (91D0*). Main qualifying species: Bombina bombina, Triturus cristatus, Emys orbicularis, Oxyporus mannerheimi, Dytiscus latissimus, Hamatocaulis vernicosus, Pulsatilla patens, Agrimonia pilosa, Myotis dasycneme, Cobitis taenia. The lakes are key feeding habitats for M.dasycneme and very important feeding sites for P.nathusii, P.pipistrellus and N.noctula. Two large nursery colonies with M.dasycneme, P.nathusii, P.pipistrellus are known in the area. Hosts large number of nationally rare plant and animal species. Holds a good diversity of breeding and migratory bird species.
