Other Site Characteristics

Site is located along the Gulf of Riga close to Riga City and includes mainly various coastal habitats and dry coniferous forests. Also lakes and grasslands are found.

4.2 Quality and importance

Important site for conservation of all the habitats mentioned in chapter 3, especially for habitat types 2110, 2120, 2180, 1630, 3130 and 9010. Qualifying species are Lutra lutra,Cottus gobio, Aspius aspius, Rhodeus sericeus amarus,Dianthus arenarius arenarius, Angelica palustris. Typical bird community for pine forest + sandy beach. One of highest densities of Anthus campestris and Lullula arborea in Latvia. Significant pre-spawning concentration place of anadromous fish species. Hosts a number of nationally rare plant species. Some lakes (Garezers) are very important for conservation of rare bat species. One of 3 Angelica palustris localities in Latvia. Includes outlet of Gauja River.
