Other Site Characteristics

Site includes Ogre River valley where broad-leaved forests on slopes, alluvial forests, and dolomite outcrops occur. Different types of grasslands, springs, arable lands and scattered farmsteads are also found within the site.

4.2 Quality and importance

Main qualifying features are 3260 Water courses of plain to montane levels with the Ranuculion fluitantis and Callitricho-Batrachion vegetation, 9180* Tilio-Acerion forests of slopes, screes and ravines, 91F0 Riparian mixed forests, 91E0* Alluvial forests with Alnus glutinosa and Fraxinus excelsior, 6270* Fennoscandian lowland species-rich dry to mesic grasslands, 8210 Calcareous rocky slopes with chasmophytic vegetation, 6510 Lowland hay meadows, and 6530* Fennoscandian wooded meadows. Qualifying species are Ophiogomphus cecilia, Unio crassus, Cottus gobio, Cobitia taenia, Lampetra planeri and Agrimonia pilosa. Hosts remarkable number of nationally rare plant species. One of the best sites for 3260, 8210, and 9180 in Latvia. Site of high scenic value.
