Other Site Characteristics

Ca 23 km long stretch of highly natural flood-plain (mostly meadows) along Aiviekste river.

4.2 Quality and importance

Main qualifying features are floodplain meadows (6450), Lowland hay meadows (6510), and Mesic grasslands (6270*). Qualifying species is Lutra lutra. Important bird area LV051 Aiviekste flood-plain meadows. High breeding densities of Crex crex, meadows potentially important for Gallinago media. Site is used as a staging post by migrating waterfowl during spring floods. Valuable flood-plain grassland habitats.
