Other Site Characteristics

Site includes two raised bogs of eastern type (Stompaku and Murnieku mires) with Chamaedaphne calyculata surrounded by pine dominated bog woodland and mixed and deciduous forests. Transitional mires occur on bog margins. On bog islands mixed aspen and pine forests are found.

4.2 Quality and importance

Main qualifying features are Active raised bogs (7110*), Transitional mires and quaking bogs (7140) and Bog woodland (91D0*). Despite the drainage, bogs are in a good condition. Forested islands have abundance of old growth Pine and Aspen stands with dead standing and fallen logs.
