Other Site Characteristics

Site includes Lielauce Lake part of which has developed into transitional mire and fen. Benthic communities with Chara spp. cover about 95% of the open lake area. Occasionally black alder swamps and small parcels of dry coniferous forests are found.

4.2 Quality and importance

Main qualifying features are Transitional mires and quaking bogs (7140) and Hard oligo-mesotrophic waters with benthic vegetation of Chara spp. (3140). Hosts Annex II qualifying species Liparis loeselii and Saxifraga hirculus. Diverse breeding bird fauna, site also hosts staging waterfowl during migrations.Insignificant for river fish species.
