Site includes two eutrophic lakes (Klaucanu and Priekulanu) surrounded by agricultural lands, coniferous, mixed and grey alder-black alder forests. In the northern part Podvaze River flows

4.2 Quality and importance

Important site for conservation of natural eutrophic lakes (3150) and alluvial Alnus incana and Alnus glutinosa forests (91E0*). Qualifying species is Agrimonia pilosa. One of two sites of Trapa natans in Latvia. Hamatocaulis lapponicus was recorded in Lake Klaucanu in 1961, but there are no new data.
