Other Site Characteristics

Site includes a coastal lagoon lake - Babite Lake, which is a large shallow eutrophic lake surrounded by wet and moist meadows in between the polder dams. Large reed beds with Phragmites australis, Typha angustifolia and Scirpus lacustris characterize the lake. Different emergent and floating-leaved vegetation characterized by Ceratophyllum demersum, Myriophyllum spicatum, Hydrocharis morsus-ranae, Nymphae alba and Nuphar lutea is found there.

4.2 Quality and importance

Qualifying features are Natural eutrophic lakes with.. 3150 and Northern Boreal alluvial meadows (6450). One of few ancient lagoon lakes in Latvia. Qualifying species are Myotis dasycneme and Lutra lutra.
