Other Site Characteristics

Site includes Klanu Lake (ancient lagoon) surrounded by two raised bogs of coastal type, pine dominated bog woodland, black alder swamps and birch forest. Fragmentary transitional mires occur - at lake margins and on the bog margins. Rare plant community with Lobelia dortmanna is found in the lake. D - Red Data Book of Latvia.

4.2 Quality and importance

Main qualifying features are Oligotrophic to mesotrophic standing waters with vegetation of the Littorelletea uniflorae and Isoeto-Nanojuncetea (3130), Active raised bogs (7110*), 9080* Fennoscandian deciduous swamp forests.Qualifying plant species - Cypripedium calceolus. One of three sites in Latvia supporting Rhynchospora fusca and Eleocharis multicaulis.
