Other Site Characteristics

Site includes coniferous and mixed forests. In relief depressions bog woodland and mires occur. Occasionally springs are found. Several small rivers flow through the site. D - Red Data Book of Latvia.

4.2 Quality and importance

Main qualifying features are Bog woodland (91D0*), Active raised bogs (7110*), Transitional mires and quaking bogs (7140), Western taiga (9010*), Fennoscandian deciduous swamp forests (9080*), Fennoscandian natural old broad-leaved forests and springs (7160). Qualifying species are Saxifraga hirculus, Cinna latifolia, Hamatocaulis vernicosus, Hamatocaulis lapponicus, Lycaena dispar, Graphoderus bilineatus, Unio crassu, Lampetra planeri, and Lutra lutra. Hosts remarkable number of nationally rare invertebrate and plant species.
