Other Site Characteristics

Site includes wetland habitats, mainly transitional mires and fens along Veseta River. Also alluvial forests with Alnus glutinosa and bog woodland are found there.

4.2 Quality and importance

Main qualifying features are Transitional mires and quaking bogs (7140), Hydrophilous tall herb fringe communities of plains and.. (6430), Deciduous swamp woods (9080*) and Annex I species Saxifraga hirculus, Liparis loeselii and Hamatocaulis vernicosus. Different mire communities are distinguished there. One of few sites where mires of floodplain origin are found in Latvia. One of the largest present populations of Saxifraga hirculus in Latvia. As for birds, the territory holds habitats with little disturbance though species diversity is low due to the relatively small area. Medium important feeding place for bats.
