Other Site Characteristics

Site lies next to the Abava River Nature Park and close to Venta River Valley protected nature area. Undulated relief determines the habitat diversity in the site. Dry pine forests, mixed forests, ravine forests and wet forests are found there. Also tall sedge fens occur. There are several small rivers in the site. Some areas have been seriously changed due to beaver activities.

4.2 Quality and importance

Main qualifying features are Western taiga (9010*), Bog woodland (91D0*), and Fennoscandian black alder swamps (9080*). Qualifying species are Lutra lutra, Triturus cristatus, Leucorrhinia pectoralis and Agrimonia pilosa.
