Other Site Characteristics

Site includes several mires surrounded by pine dominated bog woodland, wet deciduous forests, dry mixed forests and coniferous forests and mesotrophic lake Kerklinu Lake. Small rivers flow through the site. D - Red Data Book of Latvia

4.2 Quality and importance

Main qualifying features are Active raised bogs (7110*), Transitional mires and quaking bogs (7140) and Bog woodland (91D0*) and Fennoscandian deciduous swamp woods (9080*). Qualifying species are Agrimonia pilosa, Lutra lutra and Myotis dasycneme. Relatively untouched bog with wet mixed and coniferous forests around it. Important resting place for birds during migration. Rich in breeding birds of prey and woodpeckers. Lakes and forest are important feeding habitats and roosting sites for bats. More species are expected to be present in the territory.
