Other Site Characteristics

Site includes two lakes (Zebrus and Svetes) surrounded by dry and wet coniferous forests and mixed forests. Fragmentary broad-leaved forests are found. Part of the bog woodland has developed due to overgrowing of mires. Calcareous springs occur at the NE bank of Zebrus Lake.

4.2 Quality and importance

Main qualifying features are Natural eutrophic lakes with(3150), Bog woodland (91D0*) and Fennoscandian mineral-rich springs and spring fens (7160). Qualifying species are Liparis loeselii, Cypripedium calceolus, Cobitis taenia, Myotis dasycneme. Lakes are feeding place for a number of nationally rare bat species, including Myotis dasycneme. Despite drainage efforts, site holds various forest habitats incl. wet forests with little human interference. Important for breeding woodpeckers and Hazel Grouse. Migrating geese use the lake for roosting during the autumn passage.
