Other Site Characteristics

Site includes Skujaine and Svetaine river valleys where slope forests, alluvial forests, Molinia meadows, calcareous fens, springs and sandstone outcrops are found. Dry coniferous forests are also found.

4.2 Quality and importance

Main qualifying features are 9010* Western taiga, 91E0* Alluvial forests with Alnus glutinosa and Fraxinus excelsior, 7160 Fennoscandian mineral-rich springs and spring fens, 7220* Petrifying springs with tufa formation, 3260 Water courses of plain to montane levels with the Ranunculion fluitantis and Callitricho-Batrachion vegetation, 9180* Tilio-Acerion forests of slopes, screes and ravines and 7230 Alkaline fens. Qualifying species - Agrimonia pilosa, Vertigo genesii, V. angustior and Osmoderma emerita. One of few sites in Zemgale region with such a concentration of nature conservation values.
