Other Site Characteristics

Site includes two eutrophic lakes Bicanu and Jasezers. Oak and mixed broadleaved forests are found on lake islands and Zeinisku peninsula. Fragmentary alluvial forests are found. D - Red Data book of Latvia

4.2 Quality and importance

Main qualifying features are 3150 Natural eutrophic lakes with, 9160 Sub-Atlantic and medio-European oak or oak-hornbeam forests of the Carpinion betuli and 9020* Fennoscandian hemiboreal natural old broad-leaved deciduous forests (Quercus, Tilia. Acer, Fraxinus or Ulmus) rich in epiphytes. One of the best oak forest localities in southern part of Latvia. Qualifying species is Dicranum viride.
