Other Site Characteristics

A stagnant shallow freshwater lake with some reedbeds and former salt marshes, which was cut off from SPA Oosterschelde (NL3009016) in 1983. It is adjacent to SPA Zoommeer (NL9902010) in the north-west, with the city of Bergen op Zoom at the north-eastern border, and the ScheldeRhine river connection at the west side. This site was originally designated together with SPA Oosterschelde.

4.2 Quality and importance

The following data refer to the period 1993-1997 (data in paragraph 3.2a-b refer te period 1999-2003). Species meeting the 1% threshold (non-breeding): Gadwall Anas strepera (2%); Northern Shoveler Anas clypeata (1%). xxx The site is a roost for geese Anser from surrounding feeding areas, but xxx no counts are available. xxx Site largely overlaps with IBA 030 (IBA2000).
