Other Site Characteristics

A complex of shallow freshwater lakes (former peat-workings), wet meadows (e.g. Akmarijp) and marshland, located east of the city of Sneek. The site belongs to the same water management unit as SPA Witte and Zwarte Brekken (NL9802048).

4.2 Quality and importance

The following data refer to the period 1993-1997 (data in paragraph 3.2a-b refer te period 1999-2003). Species meeting the 1% threshold (non-breeding): White-fronted Goose Anser albifrons (2,8%), Barnacle Goose Branta leucopsis (5,5%), Eurasian Wigeon Anas [Mareca] penelope (1,5%). xxx One of the five most important sites for (breeding): Ruff Philomachus pugnax; (non-breeding): Ruff Philomachus pugnax. xxx The site holds important roosts for geese Anser from surrounding feeding areas.  xxx Site largely overlaps with IBA058-59 (IBA2000)
