Other Site Characteristics

An extensive area of shallow lakes and canals (former peat-workings), fens, reedbeds, swampy woodland, and wet meadows. The site is located to the west of the city of Hilversum, close to the River Vecht.  xxx 

4.2 Quality and importance

The following data refer to the period 1993-1997 (data in paragraph 3.2a-b refer te period 1999-2003). One of the five most important sites for (breeding): Little Bittern Ixobrychus minutus, Purple Heron Ardea purpurea, Black Tern Chlidonias niger, Common Kingfisher Alcedo atthis. xxx Site largely overlaps with IBA073 (IBA2000).
