Other Site Characteristics

Área montanhosa de média altitude, com vegetação caracterizada sobretudo pela presença de Quercus rotundifolia e Quercus suber. Constitui uma das maiores unidades contínuas de serpentinites em Portugal, com enorme interesse geológico e florístico.

4.2 Quality and importance

Uma das áreas mais representativas da flora ultrabásica. Melhor curso de água conhecido para lagostim-de-patas-brancas (Austropotamobius pallipes). Também importante para mamíferos aquáticos. Nas margens da Barragem do Azibo encontra-se um dos melhores sobreirais transmontanos e a mais extensa área de bosques secundários de Quercus faginea ssp. faginea do norte do país.
