Other Site Characteristics

O Sítio, dominado pela Serra de Arga, apresenta uma forte expressividade em termos de afloramentos rochosos siliciosos, sendo significativamente influenciado pelo clima atlântico. A fisiografia planáltica, pouco intervencionada e com uma reduzida actividade agrícola, proporciona a ocorrência de pequenas zonas húmidas e zonas de alagamento temporário, o que potencia a presença de mosaicos higrófilos.

4.2 Quality and importance

São de salientar as turfeiras na orla de lagoas, depressões e fundos de encosta com acumulação ou fluência lenta de água (7140), onde abundam espécies de Sphagnum, os biótopos higroturfosos com vegetação pioneira (7150), os urzais-tojais de montanha com Erica tetralix e Ulex minor, em que são também comuns espécies do género Genista (4020*) e tambémos cervunais (6230*). Assinale-se ainda a ocorrência frequente de vegetação pioneira crassifólia (8230), de tojais e urzais-tojais galaico-portugueses dominados por Ulex europaeus subsp. latebracteatus e/ou U. minor (4030). Zona importante para a conservação da toupeira-de-água (Galemys pyrenaicus) em Portugal, por incluir grande parte da pequena bacia hidrográfica litoral do Rio Âncora que constitui uma zona marginal da área de distribuição da espécie, albergando no entanto populações reduzidas e ameaçadas. Ao nível da fauna piscícola este sítio é particularmente relevante para a manutenção da diversidade genética do ruivaco (Rutilus macrolepidotus*). Esta área constitui a zona mais ocidental da área de distribuição do lobo (Canis lupus) em Portugal. *Actualmente designada por Achondrostoma oligolepis
