4.1 General site character

Other Site Characteristics

Este Sítio possui uma elevada importância biofísica, pois integra as cabeceiras dos rios Labruja, Coura e Vez, três dos principais cursos de água do Alto Minho.

4.2 Quality and importance

O coberto vegetal é constituído por uma extensa e bem preservada mancha florestal, onde predominam os carvalhais de carvalho-roble (Quercus robur) (9230), com uma elevada abundância de arando (Vaccinium myrtillus), vidoeiro (Betula celtiberica) e azevinho (Ilex aquifolium). Merecem destaque os urzais-tojais higrófilos de Erica tetralix e Ulex minor (4020*) e os tojais mesófilos dominados por Ulex europaeus subsp. latebracteatus e/ou Ulex minor (4030). Assinala-se também a presença de lameiros de feno (6510). Sítio importante para a brioflora, registando-se a presença de Bruchia vogesiaca, que em Portugal ocorre apenas em dois Sítios. Aqui se situa a segunda maior população portuguesa de Narcissus pseudonarcissus subsp. nobilis e populações relevantes de Narcissus cyclamineus. Tendo em conta as excelentes condições de habitat que este Sítio apresenta para o lobo (Canis lupus), o mesmo é extremamente relevante para assegurar a ligação entre o núcleo populacional do Gerês e as áreas mais marginais da distribuição desta espécie no NW do país, como seja a Serra de Arga. Este Sítio inclui uma parte significativa das cabeceiras do rio Coura (bacia do Minho) e ainda uma pequena parte das sub-bacias do rio Labruja e Vez (bacia do Lima), áreas consideradas relevantes para a toupeira-de-água (Galemys pyrenaicus).
