Other Site Characteristics

Este Sítio integra a maior área de calcários do Norte de Portugal.

4.2 Quality and importance

Na área calcária deste sítio ocorre um azinhal (Quercus rotundifolia) (9340) em bom estado de conservação. Estes calcários são rodeados por zonas de xisto e granito onde se observa um extenso e bem conservado sobreiral (Quercus suber)(9330). É um Sítio de grande importância para várias espécies de morcegos, tanto como local de criação (morcego-de-ferradura-mediterrânico Rhinolophus euryale, morcego-rato-grande Myotis myotis, morcego-rato-pequeno Myotis blythii, morcego-de-peluche Miniopterus shreibersii e morcego-lanudo Myotis emarginatus) como de hibernação (morcego-de-ferradura-mediterrânico, morcego-de-ferradura-grande Rhinolophus ferrumequinum e morcego-de-peluche). Destaca-se a colónia de criaçãode morcego-rato-pequeno, já que para além deste local só se conhece mais um abrigo de criação, no Algarve. Este Sítio integra ainda a área de distribuição do lobo (Canis lupus).
