Other Site Characteristics

Sítio integrado na área de granitos do Alto Alentejo, caracteriza-se por um relevo de peneplanície, com cabeços coroados por grandes blocos graníticos, frequentemente espaçados, possuindo algumas zonas mais declivosas junto a vales fluviais. Apresenta zonas arborizadas com pequenos maciços boscosos rodeados de outros bem revestidos de giestais, os quais alternam com tojais e tapetes de herbáceas.

4.2 Quality and importance

O carvalho-negral (Quercus pyrenaica) está presente nesta zona em comunidades estremes ou associado ao sobreiro (Quercussuber), ou mesmo à azinheira (Quercus rotundifolia) (6310), a qual ocupa as zonas mais secas. Este Sítio tem ainda a particularidade de conter áreas onde o carvalho-negral ocorre sob a forma de montado, formações raríssimas a nível nacional. São de realçar ainda as comunidades herbáceas da ordem Isoeto-Nanojuncetea (3170*) que estão bem representadas neste Sítio. Sítio de ocorrência histórica de lince-ibérico (Lynx pardinus) e que mantém características susceptíveis de serem melhoradas, de forma a promover a recuperação da espécie ou permitir a sua reintrodução a médio/longo prazo, num programa integrado com os Sítios circundantes.
