O Ilhéu da Viúva encontra-se muito perto da costa, ficando apenas isolado com a maré cheia. Abriga uma vegetação xerofítica bem adaptada à elevada salinidade do meio.

4.2 Quality and importance

Presença de várias plantas endémicas, assim como de aves protegidas em convenções internacionais. Destaque para alguns indivíduos de Juniperus turbinata ssp. canariensis referidos no ponto 3.3, táxon endémico da Macaronésia (Canárias e Madeira) que, apesar de não vir referida nas convenções, é muito raro e ameaçado de extinção na Madeira.
