Other Site Characteristics

Situl propus se afla pe Dunare intre km 451 si km 430.Situl propus cuprinde atat portiunea de Dunare cuprinsa intre Cascioarele-Chirnogi-Oltenita cat si teren agricol ce face parte din incinta indiguita Greaca-Arges-Chirnogi. Este aparata de inundatii prin: digul longitudinal Dunare cu o lungime 19,500km construit in 1967; digul Remu-Arges mal drept cu o lungime de 4,2 km con struit in 1967; digul de compartimentare(dig vechi Chirnogi) cu o lungime de 12,475km construit in 1932; digul de compartimentare (dig nord Chirnogi) cu o lungime de 2,7km construit in 1932. O parte din diguri au suferit modificari datorita constructiei canalului Dunare-Bucuresti. In acest sit propus se afla doua sisteme de desecare, Dunarica si Greaca. De foarte multe ori cand nivelul Dunarii este ridicat terenurile agricole propuse in sit sunt inundate, apa stationand pe o perioda mai lunga , 40-50 zile pe an. Evacuarea apei din incinta se face prin cele doua statii de pompare mentionate. Datorita acestui aspect de zona umeda caracteristica luncii Dunarii arealul este tranzitat de numeroase specii avifaunistice, printre acestea se numara gaste, garlite, starci, egrete, chire, chirighite etc.;

4.2 Quality and importance

Acest sit gazduieste efective importante ale unor specii de pasari protejate. Conform datelor avem urmatoarele categorii: a) numar de specii din anexa 1 a Directivei Pasari: 28 b) numar de alte specii migratoare, listate in anexele Conventiei asupra speciilor migratoare (Bonn): 61 c) numar de specii periclitate la nivel global: 4 Situl este important pentru populatiile cuibaritoare ale speciilor urmatoare: Aythya nyroca Ciconia nigra Himantopus himantopus Ixobrychus minutus Situl este important in perioada de migratie pentru speciile: Aythya nyroca Ardeola ralloides Phalacrocorax pygmaeus Platalea leucorodia Ciconia ciconia Egretta alba Egretta garzetta SOR: Sit desemnat ca IBA conform urmatoarelor criterii elaborate de BirdLife International: C1, C2, C6.;
