Other Site Characteristics

The nature reserve Svartåmynningen is flat and situated on sedimental material that have been deposit from the river of Svartån as it runs out into the lake of Roxen. The sedimentation is still continuing. Rests of old river streams (in the sediments) are found in the reserve. The reserve has a very rich birdlife with both breeding and resting birds. During the years more than 200 species of birds have been seen in the reserve. Also the flora of the grassed meadows are of interest.

4.2 Quality and importance

The wet meadows of Svartåmynningen are very important to both breeding and migrating birds. The meadows are intensively grassed by animals which makes them attractive to the birds. Large grassed and open meadows are rare in the landscape of today.
