Other Site Characteristics

Uggelö nature reserve consist of a number of islands in the archipelago of Sankt Anna. The bedrock on the islands are granite except on one island where the bedrock are gnejs. All islands have the typical form of islands that have been formed of the inland ice. The sediments consist of morainegravel with streaks of clay. The flora and fauna of the landareas in the reserve are characteristic for the archipelago. On most of the islands grow coniferous forest. Picea abies grow in the lower parts and Pinus sylvestris on the higher situated dry areas. Some Pinus sylvestris holds the age of 300 years. Here and there also old large Quercus robur are found. In the areas where broad-leaved deciduous trees are found the flora on the ground also are richer.

4.2 Quality and importance

Uggelö is a very valueable nature reserve with high faunistic and floristic values. Old forests are rare in the area. The reserve is representative for this part of the archipelago.

6.3 Conservation measures (optional)

The main purpose of the nature reserve of Uggelö is to protect the high faunistic values and the unexplored forests of the islands. Most of the forest is protected against forestry and these areas are not to be managed in any way. The rest of the forest should be managed with consideration of nature conservation. The ways of doing this consideration are written down in the management plan. For more information, see the management plan in binder 0582-215 at the County Administration Board.
