Other Site Characteristics

Oset-Rynningeviken consists of decidous lake side forest, wet meadows, reeds and open water at the mouth of the Svartå river where it empties into Lake Hjälmaren. Most of the land was reclamed when Lake Hjälmaren was partially drained more than 100 years ago.

4.2 Quality and importance

This mosaic of natural habitats with a high level of nutrients is of great importance not only as a stop-over for migratory birds but also as a nesting site. It´s a well-known stop-over area for wading birds in the autumn and in the early spring large flocks of gulls and ducks collect on the open water at the mouth of Svartå river.
