Other Site Characteristics

Engsö bedrock are criss-crossed by a cracksystem wich have given the landscape its characteristics. The bedrock is dominated by granite and gneiss, the most common soiltype is clay. Meadows, pasture land, alluvial meadows, alluvial forests and broad leaved deciduous forests with rich flora and fauna are the typical landscape elements. Important recreation area with things worth seeing, for example the Castle of Engsö.

4.2 Quality and importance

Engsö is characterised by a small-scaled cultivated landscape, deciduous woods, pastures, meadows and wetlands. Engsö with its archipelago is a wellknown and much frequented recreationarea both in the summer and in the winter.
