Other Site Characteristics

Området består av ett stycke klint med anslutande alvarbetesmarker och stränder längs Ölands västra kust. Betesmarkerna har tunna jordlager och berget går i dagen på flera ställen. Grusalvar av olika typer dominerar. Klinten går helt nära strandlinjen och är utsatt för pågående erosion. I klinten vid kan man studera de äldsta kalkstenslagren, Latorp- och Lannakalksten, samt de underlagrade bergarterna. Överst finns ett 2,5 meter mäktigt lager med underordovicisk kalksten. Under detta finns ett drygt metertjockt lager med underordovicisk alunskiffer. Därefter kommer överkambriska orstensbankar och orstensbollar mellanlagrade av ett tunt alunskifferlager. Under detta kan man på flera håll se de översta delarna av den mellankambriska paradoxissimussiltstenen. Den består av en växellagring mellan tunna lager av lerskiffer och siltsten. På toppen av klinten finns svallgrus med en mäktighet av 2-3 meter.
