Other Site Characteristics

Within the area are as well stands of pine- and spruceforests successed into mountainbirch-forests. The northern outpostsites of pine and spruce, but also primeval parts with coarse dimensioned pine, resulting in survival possibilities for unique species. The dominating coarsed pinetrees are sparsely grown, but much higher than the spruce. The fieldlayer are consisting of shrub, such as crowberry (Empetrum hermaphroditum), bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) and V.vitis-idaea, some mosses and lichens. The stands of pine does not reach all the way down to the lake. Instead there are birch forest, heath or bogs along the shore, due to the more severe climate at the shore. Palsars are common on the wetland. Consequences of the large untouched has resulted in the high frequences birdfauna and mammalfauna

4.2 Quality and importance

Alajaure presenting the outpostsite of the coniferous forestregion, with western taiga, lichen-rich birchforests, palsars, upfreezing land, and important birdsites. Other important species motivated "other reason" is regionaly endangered.
