  • NP: in case that a species is no longer present in the site enter: x (optional)
  • Type: p = permanent, r = reproducing, c = concentration, w = wintering (for plant and non-migratory species use permanent)

  • Abundance categories (Cat.): C = common, R = rare, V = very rare, P = present - to fill if data are deficient (DD) or in addition to population size information
  • Data quality: G = 'Good' (e.g. based on surveys); M = 'Moderate' (e.g. based on partial data with some extrapolation); P = 'Poor' (e.g. rough estimation); VP = 'Very poor' (use this category only, if not even a rough estimation of the population size can be made, in this case the fields for population size can remain empty, but the field "Abundance categories" has to be filled in)

Other Site Characteristics

The area consists of three different landscapes: grasslands of Jovsi, forest of Dobrava and agricultural mosaic of Kozjansko. They lie in the eastern part of Slovenia along the river Sotla that connects them. Jovsi is the only one preserved extensive flood plain along Sotla. There is a high level of groundwater; the hydromorphic ground was first overgrown with diluvial forest. There is a preponderance of marshy and waterlogged meadows, intersected by banks of vegetation, thickets and by solitary trees. The most waterlogged is the western edge along the ica, and for this reason it is usually only mown once a year. Dobrava is the complex of lowland alluvial forests that remain in the lower part of Sotla. There is a high level of groundwater in the area and therefore the floodingsare common. There are many small streams along the edge of the forest, some of which are regulated. Broad-leaved deciduous trees (Quercus robur, Carpinus betulus, Alnus glutinosa) dominate in the forest, surrounded by low input meadows. Kozjansko is a hilly landscape situated in north from Dobrava and Jovsi. It is predominantly covered by forests. The area is quite densely populated. Yet the traditionally cultivated countryside is still well preserved. Due to extensive farming, there is still many endangered species of weeds preserved on any such fields. Old orchards are still a very common site. Slopes and summits of many hills are covered in extensively cultivated dry grasslands.

4.2 Quality and importance

In Slovenian range Kozjansko is the most important site for Jynx torquilla, in Dobrava forest breeds vital population of Dendrocopos medius (5%) and Jovsi are important as isolated breeding area of Crex crex (5%).
