Other Site Characteristics

The site is situated in the River Hron alluvium and falls into the Fatransko-tatranská geomorphological unit, subunit Horehronské podolie Valley. Vegetation cover is dominated by shrubby and arborescent species of birch, alder and willow. Herbaceous plants cover only a small area of the site and because of highly competitive species of secondary succession they must be helped by the means of management measures. Basement of the site is dominated by alluvial loams and gravel loams.

4.2 Quality and importance

The site supports a mosaic of wetland habitats extremely rare in other parts of the Nízke Tatry Mts. The site is known as valuable hunting grounds for river otter Lutra lutra which also finds safe occasional hiding places here. Moreover, the site provides valuable resting grounds for the migrating species of snipe, sandpipers and their allies (Scolopacidae). The site is situated within the borders of the Nízke Tatry SPA as well as within the territory of designated nature reserve.
