Other Site Characteristics

The site features an intact tract of sprucewoods whose area is broken down by three enclaves of the transition mires. Parts of the site are formed by the communities of 6230* Species-rich Nardus grasslands on siliceous substrates in mountain areas and submountain areas in continental Europe supporting Campanula serrata, the species of international importance. The site also fosters several nationally protected species of plants, namely Carex limosa, Carex chordorrhiza and Drosera anglica. Topographically unique features include the tiny 5-6 meters deep lake situated 1100 metres above sea level.

4.2 Quality and importance

The site is located within the territory of the Protected Landscape Area Horná Orava (zone B - Puchmajerovej jazierko and the adjacent area, zone C - Minčol). Puchmajerovej jazierko (lake) was designated a small-scaled protected area in 1974. Local transition peat bogs and fens (habitat type 7140 Transitions mires and quaking bogs) harbour several endangered species of flora including taxa Carex limosa, Carex chordorrhiza and Drosera anglica. The aforementioned species are very rare in Slovakia and their presence is confined to a limited number of sites. The site is situated within the territory of Malá Fatra SPA.
