Other Site Characteristics

Majority of the site is formed by the Sitno National Nature Reserve designated to preserve both unique character of local floristic and faunal communities and distinctive archeological and geomorphological features of the site.

4.2 Quality and importance

The site represents a well-preserved complex of forests encompassing a whole series of different forest habitats ranging from thermophilous oak woods to fir-beech foothill woods notable for their exceptionally rich structure and species plentiful communities. Likewise, the site is valuable for the occurrence of xerothermic plant and animal communities in the situations of atypical altitude location (1000m altitude) and unique geological features including exposed rocky crags, rocky scree, lava flows, etc.
