Other Site Characteristics

The site is noted as one of the most important watercourses of the Západné Beskydy Mts. flysch area. Among its natural features of prominent value there are several small gorges (Podbiel, nad Dolným Kubínom) with exposed basement of limestone rocks noted for the fossils presence.

4.2 Quality and importance

The site represents the longest unregulated river stretch of the foothill location in Slovakia. It creates the favourable conditions for existence of several species of fish of national importance Hucho hucho, Gobio uranoscopus, Zingel streber and Cottus gobi, etc.
