Other Site Characteristics

The large sedge stands dominate. A regulated brook with the linear riparian stands (Alnus glutinosa, Salix sp.) flows through the site. Nearby Ipeľ River the continuous shrubby willow stand occur. Geological basement is formed by the Quaternary fluvial sediments covered with deposits of sea sands. The gleyic Eutric Fluvisols are dominant soils. Several flora species endangered in Slovakia (Butomus umbellatus, Carex melanostachya, Thalictrum lucidum, Utricularia vulgaris) have been recorded in the site.

4.2 Quality and importance

The area is a significant locality for migratory waterfowl species and well-preserved wetland habitat in the upper section of the Poiplie region. The site is a significant biocentre for the wetland flora, fauna species and habitats. The site is a part of the proposed Special Protected Area Poiplie. A part of the site is the existing Nature Reserve Dálovský Močiar.
