Los fondos marinos son rocosos y muy abruptos, con multitud de arrecifes, grandes cuevas, roques, etc. lo que conforma un hábitat de gran belleza paisajística submarina. Se gana profundidad rápidamente, alcanzando los 100 metros de profundidad a escasa distancia de la costa. Este litoral está expuesto al régimen dominante de fuerte oleaje que llega del norte.

4.2 Quality and importance

El abrupto relieve de los fondos marinos de este área, unido a las diferentes características oceanográficas presentes configuran una zona que alberga una gran biodiversidad de organismos bentónicos. Por otro lado, las grandes profundidades que se alcanzan cerca de la costa permiten la presencia de numerosas especies de cetáceos. En este sentido, este área es una de las dos mejores zonas de distribución de Tursiops truncatus de Canarias. El resto de especies de cetáceos se ven beneficiadas al encontrar en este área cercana a la costa un lugar de alimentación y descanso. Para otras especies es un importante lugar de alimentación y paso, destacando la presencia de Caretta caretta.
