Other Site Characteristics

Auf den eiszeitlichen Schottern der Parndorfer Platte ist dies der Rest eines geschlossenen Waldbestandes, wie er noch Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts anzutreffen war. Exposition und Grundwassernähe sind die entscheidenden Standortfaktoren, die zur Differenzierung der Waldvegetation führten. Der Wald ist als Niederwald bewirtschaftet. Bemerkenswert ist der, mit Zwergmandelgebüsch geasäumte, warme Südrand des Eichenwaldes.Die stark versauerten Schotter führen zu dem, für die Parndorfer Platte charakteristischen acidophilen Trockenrasen.

4.2 Quality and importance

Obwohl nur mehr ein zerstückelter Restbestand, ist der Zurndorfer Eichenwald noch der schönste Waldbestand der Parndorfer Platte.Der Hauptanteil wird von einem Acer tatarici-Quercetum eingenommen. Als Eichenarten sind hier Quercus pubescens, Q. cerris, Q. petrea und Q. robur anzutreffen
