Other Site Characteristics

Relativ naturnahe Flußlandschaft mit intakter Gewässerfauna und -flora;hoher Anteil zonaler Waldgesellschaften, an steilen Standorten Urwaldcharakter;im südlichen Bereich Verzahnung mit dem Pannonikum, hier ausklingender Weinbau mit xerothermophiler Flora und Fauna;

4.2 Quality and importance

Nordwestarealsrand vieler pontomediterraner Arten; auf den Hochflächen des Waldviertels relativ extensive bäuerliche Kulturlandschaft mit Grünland und Feldbau; reiche Gliederung durch Raine ("Lüssen"), Hecken und Feldgehölze (auch "Bauernwälder"); bei intakter Dorfstruktur alte Obstbaumbestände mit Streuwiesencharakter; charakteristische Landschaftselemente sind auch sogenannte "Bühel"; hierbei handelt es sich um unbewirtschaftete Hügelkuppen mit hohem Skelettanteil, welche lokale klimatisch begünstigte Refugien darstellen;
